Our Curriculum
At Halsey Drive School, our vision is to personalise learning and provide authentic, meaningful experiences that engage and inspire our students.

We implement a structured literacy approach across the school and use the Maths — No Problem! resource to support high-quality teaching and learning in mathematics. Wherever possible, learning is delivered through integrated units of inquiry that allow students to build essential content knowledge and develop key lifelong learning competencies.
We foster a culture of student agency, where learners take increasing responsibility for their learning—setting goals, reflecting on progress, and identifying next steps.
Our differentiated, concept-based curriculum offers rich opportunities for students to explore global concepts through a range of authentic contexts. This integrated curriculum is underpinned by the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) Taxonomy (Biggs & Collis, 1982), which helps us develop deeper thinking and a shared language of learning.
We use SOLO-coded Hot Maps and student-friendly self-assessment rubrics to support metacognition and enable students to track and articulate their learning journey.
E-Learning
At Halsey Drive School, e-learning plays a key role in supporting and enhancing 21st-century learning. We use digital tools and resources purposefully to enrich classroom learning, encourage collaboration, and connect students with a wider learning community. Through e-learning, our students develop critical thinking skills, digital fluency, and the confidence to navigate an ever-changing technological world.

Artistic work on canvas encourages children to express themselves creatively and allows them to explore their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through colors, shapes, and textures, fostering a sense of self-expression and individuality.Kia ora ! My name is Pooja & I am an artist. My belief is that art is an intrinsic tool to explore, nurture and self-express. I approach this philosophy by using various art materials to stimulate the senses and provide a platform for creative expression. It helps children to think critically, solve problems, make artistic choices, and stimulating their cognitive development. It’s interesting to see how our young artists creating a painting involves making decisions about colors, composition, and techniques.

The programme is designed to develop students’ English language skills so they can confidently access the New Zealand Curriculum and become effective communicators in both academic and everyday contexts.
Programme Overview
Our ESOL classes are closely connected to each child’s classroom learning. Lessons focus on building skills across the four language modes: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Each session runs for 45 minutes, with students attending two to three times per week depending on their level of English proficiency. These sessions provide opportunities for learners to consolidate classroom content and develop the language needed to engage successfully with their learning tasks.
