Children are not encouraged to arrive before 8.30am, but should come soon after. This allows them to prepare for the day’s work, meet friends and play for a few minutes. This period before school makes for a more settled and profitable day. The school day is not shortened for wet lunch hours.
We also ask that you leave the classroom by 8.45 am to allow the teacher to have this time to interact with the children and complete preparation for the day.
Visiting the School
We ask that you extend us the courtesy of calling at the office before visiting any classrooms during the day, visitors must register at the school office.
We have an open door policy but as we have many calls on our time we ask you to make an appointment if you wish to discuss your child’s progress with the Principal, Deputy Principal or classroom teacher.
After School Care
Our current after school care provider is SKIDS on: (09) 940 3665 or 021 035 6547, Email: halseydrive@skids.co.nz if you have any queries. This operates from our school hall.
Parent Helper Scheme
A Parent Helper Scheme and a Reading Tutoring Scheme operate in the school. Contact Mrs Ritchie (627-9106) if you would like to be involved.
ParentFriends of the School (FOTS)
Friends of the School (FOTS) – formally the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Halsey Drive School is made up of a group of parents who volunteer a little of their time to work on fundraising and associated activities such as events that bring the school community closer together.
We hold a meeting each month on a Monday night at 7pm in the school staffroom and notification is in the school newsletter where we have a regular column. We always welcome new parents. If you are interested in coming to a meeting or joining FOTS please leave your name and telephone number with school reception.
Change of Contact Details
If you have moved house or changed contact details, please let our office know as this will assist when we need to contact families urgently.
Dental Clinic
The dental clinic is based at New Windsor Primary School Tel: 627 0185 (Term 1 - 2009 only).
Library
We have a library at school and are anxious that full use be made of it to encourage good reading habits. Please help us, in a positive way, by encouraging children to accept responsibility for the books borrowed by handling them with care. Please read to, and with, your children.
Swimming Pool
There is a swimming pool at the school which is used daily during summer. While pleasure is important, instruction is the keynote of our lessons.
We ask for your support of us by ensuring that your child has their swimming equipment at school. As it is part of our curriculum all children should be swimming unless there is a medical reason for abstaining and a note must be provided.
A sensible and co-operative attitude is asked for from all parents. It is important that all clothing, towels, etc. be named.
Swimming pool keys are available from the office at a cost of $70 with $20 being refundable once key is returned at the end of the season. This entitles you to use the pool during weekends and holidays during the summer season. Pool rules must be adhered to.
Voluntary Donations
Parents are invited to donate to school funds. A notice about this is sent home once a year and a tax deductible receipt is given for any donations received. These donations are greatly appreciated and help us to provide resources for your children.
School Banking
Children can open a bank account with the National Bank at school. Banking Day is Thursday 8.30-9am. Year Six students are trained as Bank Tellers and are supervised by National Bank staff.
